Events in Connecticut

The people of Connecticut sure do know how to have a good time, and there are always plenty of events in Connecticut, whatever you like to do.

There are almost 3.5 million residents in Connecticut, and boy do they know how to have a good time. Whenever you go, whatever your hobby or interest, there’s always some event happening, somewhere in Connecticut.

Some Great and Some Unusual Events

  • Have you ever been to a potato and corn festival before? No, you don’t know what you’re missing and they have one at North Branford, CT, on the first weekend in August. They promise food, fun and entertainment which the whole family can enjoy so get yourself there.
  • If space and aviation is more to your liking then every August, for the past 11 years (it’s that popular) they have a Space and Aviation day at Windsor Locks, promising lots of static aircraft, aviation displays and space exploration – we are not alone – no, there’ll be loads of people there so go and join in the fun.
  • Wine, Cheese and Chocolate – three of my favorite things! What a good idea to have a wine, cheese and chocolate pairing event in Litchfield, you might have missed it because you had to book early, but there’s always next year, put it on your calendar, sounds delicious.
  • Cocktail with the Whales – now we really have heard everything! We didn’t even know that Whales liked cocktails; it certainly hasn’t been on the Discovery Channel. Anyway, pop along to the Mystic Aquarium on certain Thursday evenings throughout the summer, on second thoughts, better make a reservation, it’s bound to be busy but you’re sure to have a whale of a time.
  • Huckleberry Finn – remember him, Old Huck? Well, the Mark Twain House in Hartford has The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn running right through until January, so go along and find out about his epic journey along the Mississippi.
  • Music – it’s impossible to even start telling you about the wonderful and varied music festivals that are going on in and around Connecticut all year round. Just cast your eye over a few of these tasty morsels – there are jazz festivals, string festivals, big bands, little bands, singers, dance groups, Mozart, blues, rock, reggae, The Wailin’ Jennys, Buckwheat Zydeco, Tower of Power – the list is endless and the music just keeps on playing.
  • Open Farm Days – there’s a great tradition of farming in Connecticut and plenty of these wonderful farms open their doors in the summer to welcome visitors of all ages to enjoy the animals, eat ice cream, enjoy the countryside, enjoy the entertainment, the food and the sunshine. Definitely worth taking the kids for a day in the country.
  • Puppet Shows – yes, you can even catch some great puppet shows while you’re enjoying your vacation in Connecticut. The Hudson Valley Vagabond Puppets are putting on "The Silly Jellyfish" at the Levitt Pavilion, or maybe "The Bully Goats Gruff" is more to your liking at the Ivoryton Playhouse. Either way it’s a great way to entertain the young, and the young at heart. And if you miss those don’t worry, there’ll be something else equally entertaining to take its place.

So you see, it doesn’t really matter what you like to do, when you want to go or who you are with, there are sure to be plenty of Connecticut events on while you’re in the area to amuse and entertain the whole family.
